What are varifocal lenses?

(Shown example of peripherial distortion is just for illustrative purposes, the position and quantity of distortion varies on the varifocal design and quality)

As we age the crystalline lens in our eye loses elasticity and gets stiffer as we grow older, resulting in our close sight deteriorating which leads to having a distance and reading prescription. This results in needing two different pairs of spectacles, people are often annoyed by the need of switching between the two. One of the solutions are varifocal lenses. Varifocal lenses provide continuous vision for all distances in a single lens.

Varifocal lenses allow distance, intermediate and near vision correction in one single pair of glasses. They work by changing power from the top distance area of the lens designed for driving and TV through to the middle intermediate area created for face-to-face conversations & computer use, and finally to the lower reading area of the lens designed for reading & close work.

Unlike the traditional bifocal lenses varifocal lenses don’t have a visible line diving the different section which makes them a lot more aesthetically pleasing.

Varifocal lenses come in various different quality designs, to find which suit you and your lifestyle best please come visit us.
